DIY First Day of School Photo Ideas
It’s back to school time and it’s a new realm for me! I’ll officially be a preschool mama. I’m slightly excited that I get to be creative with routine, organization, and documenting my kids’ first moments of school. Optimus Prime, my 4-year-old, will be starting preschool in the next few weeks and part of me wants to roll up in a ball and just cry that he is growing up so fast. It felt like not too long ago, he was learning to crawl. Now, he’s learning to read, can do simple math, and is the wittiest kid I know. Waaa! Okay off my emotional pregnant mommy tangent. In this post, I’ve managed to put together a list of 11 awesome first day of school photo ideas for you!
Our First Day of School Ever and my Huge #momfail
Let’s back up a little so I can explain our journey. When Optimus was 2 years old and 10 months old, I enrolled him in an early learning center. I thought it was the right thing to do at the time. He was smart, he was potty trained, and he met the minimum age for enrollment. He would have an early start to education and be able to socialize as well. While I cringed at the price for early learning, I continued because that’s what my friends did and it worked for them.
Those first weeks were HORRIBLE. I immediately questioned my decision when he cried every time I dropped him off. The staff always ensured that it’s normal and that he would eventually outgrow it. Fast-forward to 2 months in, he still cried at every drop off. He did calm down after about 10 minutes and finally started to participate in class however so I thought we were making progress. Then he caught one of those nasty school-kid colds and we were out for 2 weeks. When we tried to return, we had regressed so much and the crying continued. I felt like such a bad mom for “forcing” him to go to school when he obviously wasn’t ready.
Long story short, I pulled him out of school and we were all much happier.
2 years later, the time has finally come to start preschool and he is more than excited to start. I’ve been on the prowl for ideas to document that first day and I’d love to share with you what I found!
